Steel Mace Fitness has always stood out to me for its warrior-like functionality, the endless creativity it allows, and the way it pulls people out of the “gym rat” mindset. It pushes individuals beyond the conventional and invites them to explore movement in a whole new way. I’ve always said the steel mace, along with the kettlebell, is like a gateway drug to breaking free from mainstream fitness thinking. Today, I’m excited to share some fun facts about the steel mace and why it’s such a unique and standout tool!

Fun Fact #1: You Don’t Have to Be an Athlete to Start

If you think the steel mace is only for “pros” or hardcore athletes, chances are you’re seeing it from a certain angle or maybe your algorithm is serving up fitness trainers with rock-hard abs showing off their skills for the Reels. And that’s fine! But here’s the truth: Steel Mace Training is for everybody.

It’s not just for the strong guys with heavy swings or the shredded trainers who look like fitness models. The steel mace can be for the gamer who wants to move more, the girl who’s determined to build strength from the inside out, or the person who’s focused on their health over aesthetics. It’s even great for those managing chronic conditions who need a workout that meets them where they’re at (I know this from personal experience with my Autoimmune Disorder and Costochondritis flare ups).

Whoever you are, the Steel Mace can work for you. Don’t let social media convince you otherwise. It’s about what works for your journey, not anyone else’s.

Fun Fact #2: It Gets You Out of the Gym

For some, this might sound like a downside, but for those of us who don’t love being cooped up inside a gym, the Steel Mace is an awesome alternative. Personally, I think there’s a time and place for gyms and their machines, but there’s also a time for functional fitness and tools like the Steel Mace. It all comes down to your goals.

Speaking of goals, if you’re not sure where to start, I’ve got a free online course that walks you through setting up Steel Mace Fitness goals. But back to the point: the Steel Mace is like a fitness Swiss Army knife. It adapts to almost any environment or goal.

The best part? You can take it outdoors! Whether you’re at the beach, in the forest, or at your local park, the Steel Mace gives you the freedom to train anywhere, without walls or limits!

Fun Fact #3: It’s Great for Sparking Creativity

Creativity has always been a big part of who I am. I’ve worn many creative hats over the years—songwriting, playing instruments like guitar, graphic design, photography, videography, web design—the list goes on. And while I’m not one to brag, I will say that being creative in so many ways has given me a unique perspective on fitness, especially when it comes to the Steel Mace.

What drew me to the Steel Mace is how it lets you create. You can build patterns, design complexes, and explore movement in ways that feel like an art form. Once you start experimenting with creative complexes—combining and even creating your own moves—it takes your workout to a whole new level.

If you’ve never tried it, I highly recommend dedicating a day to letting go and just exploring with the Steel Mace. Move freely, try new combinations, and let your creativity lead the way. You might surprise yourself with what you come up with! No one owns your time with the Steel Mace, have fun!

Fun Fact #4: The Steel Mace Can Feel Like an Extension of You

It’s true! I’ve named a few of my Steel Maces. Not all of them, just the ones that hold a special meaning to me. My very first mace is a 7lb beauty I named Lilith. If you’re unfamiliar with the story of Lilith in Jewish mythology, it’s definitely worth looking into.

I truly believe the Steel Mace can become an extension of you. There’s something about the way it feels in your hands, like it’s your own personal weapon. How you move with it, how you use it to reach your fitness goals—it becomes a very personal experience. When you see the mace as part of you, I think it helps you use it with more intention and precision.

And let’s be honest, naming your maces is just plain fun. Maybe I’ll make a YouTube video about the names I’ve given mine, it could be a funny one to share!

Fun Fact #5: It’s an Amazing Tool for Unilateral Strength

One of the coolest things about the steel mace is how it forces your weaker side to step up its game. Since the weight is unevenly distributed, especially when you’re holding it off-center or using one hand, you’re automatically engaging those smaller, weaker muscles to keep everything balanced.

It’s wild because you’ll start noticing imbalances you didn’t even know you had. The best part? You’ll fix them without even realizing it! The Steel Mace challenges your body to work as a unit, helping you build strength and stability in a way that’s functional and practical. Plus, it’s pretty satisfying when your “weaker” side finally catches up. Trust me, this tool makes the process so much more fun!

Steel Mace Fitness is a unique and powerful way to level up your fitness routine, and it’s not just for athletes or the super strong. Whether you’re looking for something outside of the gym, a creative challenge, or a way to build strength from the inside out, the steel mace is for everyone. From being able to train anywhere—no walls or limitations—to activating your creativity through movement, the steel mace offers so many benefits. It’s a tool that can become an extension of you, helping to fine-tune your unilateral strength and fix imbalances you didn’t even know you had.
