Staying consistent with any fitness practice is tough—but when life feels chaotic or motivation dips, it can feel almost impossible to stick to the plan. Even with something as awesome and versatile as Steel Mace training.

The truth is, the mace simplifies so much. It’s compact, travel-friendly, and doesn’t require a ton of space. You don’t need a fancy gym setup to get a solid, full-body workout. But despite how convenient it is, staying consistent still takes effort. It requires intention, discipline, and a few smart strategies that make it easier to keep going—especially when you’re training at home.

If you’ve been struggling to build a rhythm with your Steel Mace practice or you’re just trying to find your flow again, these tips can help you show up more consistently—without burning out or forcing it.

1. Create a Training Schedule That Works for You

One of the most effective ways to stay consistent is to schedule your Steel Mace workouts like you would any other important appointment.

Don’t just think about when you want to train—write it down. Use a calendar, planner, whiteboard, your phone—whatever works best. And be honest about your schedule. If mornings are hectic or you’re wiped by 8PM, pick a time when you’ll actually have the energy to move.

Inside my Unbound Warrior Membership, I offer a downloadable calendar to help folks map out their workouts for the week. But you don’t need a fancy template to make this work. The magic happens when you take the time to plan and commit to it.

Writing things down by hand can even increase your follow-through. It slows the mind down, helps with memory, and makes the commitment feel more real. Give it a try.

2. Build a Space That Inspires You to Show Up

If you’re training at home, carve out a space that’s just for your practice. It doesn’t need to be a full gym—just a small area that’s dedicated to movement and makes you feel grounded.

This space should do three things:

  1. Remind you it’s time to move
  2. Help you feel motivated to show up
  3. Encourage discipline on the days when motivation isn’t there

My own home training space—the “Warrior Room”—is about 220 square feet. It’s not massive, but it holds so much energy and intention. It didn’t start that way though. I built it up little by little over the years. You don’t need to have the perfect setup right away. Maybe it’s a mat in the corner of your living room, a space in your garage, or a patch of grass in your backyard.

Light a candle. Hang a quote that fuels your fire. Keep your mace in sight. Add whatever feels personal and empowering. The more your space reflects your journey, the more likely you are to use it.

3. Keep Your Steel Mace Visible

This one might seem small, but it’s powerful: keep your mace out where you can see it. When it’s visible, it becomes a daily reminder to move your body.

I’ve made the mistake of tossing my mace in a closet before—and sure enough, weeks would pass and I’d forget about it. Out of sight, out of mind. But once I started keeping it in my space—leaned against the wall or hung on a hook—I found myself picking it up way more often.

That little visual cue can completely change how you show up. It’s a symbol of your commitment to yourself. It reminds you that your body, your health, and your strength matter. And it’s way easier to stay consistent when the reminder is right in front of you.

4. Be Real with Yourself About Progress

Consistency isn’t about being perfect—it’s about being honest. At the end of each week, check in with yourself. Did you stick to your schedule? Did something get in the way? What felt good, and what felt off?

This kind of reflection helps you adjust instead of quit. If you missed a workout, it’s not the end of the world. Learn from it and get back to your plan. Your path doesn’t have to be a straight line to still be valid and powerful.

And don’t forget to celebrate the small wins. Even if you just picked up your mace and moved for five minutes, that counts. Progress is progress.

Design Your Steel Mace Life

Sticking with Steel Mace training isn’t just about discipline—it’s about designing a life that supports your practice. When you plan ahead, create space, keep your tools in sight, and reflect with compassion, you’ll naturally start to build momentum.

So whether you’re just starting out or trying to return to your groove, remember: it doesn’t have to be perfect. It just has to be yours.
